UF helps to preserve Nantucket for 40 years

Published:

For 40 years, the Preservation Institute: Nantucket has expanded the horizons of nearly 600 students studying historic preservation.

The institute was founded in 1972 as a cooperative effort between UF and the community of Nantucket to create a national program providing participants with a unique educational experience in a broad range of historic preservation issues while helping to document the historic environment of the island. Housed in the College of Design, Construction and Planning, the institute is the oldest university-run historic preservation field school in the nation. Students representing more than 100 academic institutions in the U.S. and abroad have participated in the Nantucket summer program.
