University to resume normal weekend schedule; classes begin Monday
Friday, Aug. 22, 2008 at 3:00 p.m.
The university will resume its normal weekend operating schedule on Saturday, Aug. 23. Employees who normally work Saturday and/or Sunday should plan to report to work.
Employees of UF facilities outside of Gainesville should monitor communications from their unit leaders and local government emergency operations centers.
Campus events that were scheduled for Saturday and Sunday will proceed as planned. Housing check-in will continue on a normal schedule, and classes will begin Monday, Aug. 25.
Also, the deadline to avoid the late registration fee for classes has been extended to 5 p.m. Monday, Aug. 25.

University to close Friday, housing check-in continues

The university will be closed Friday, Aug. 22 because of Tropical Storm Fay. This includes P.K. Yonge Developmental Research School. Only essential university personnel should report for work. Health Science Center clinical personnel should check with their supervisors as to whether they should report for work.
Employees who normally work weekends should monitor the UF home page for updates regarding Saturday's schedule.
However, residence halls are open and students are checking in. Students are encouraged to check-in from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. to avoid disturbing other residents; however, students may check in when area offices are open. All area offices but Yulee Area Office are open around the clock; Yulee Area Office is open 8 a.m. to midnight Monday through Thursday and around the clock for the weekend starting at 8 a.m. Friday through midnight Sunday.
The J. Wayne Reitz Union will remain open on Friday, Aug. 22, for students, essential employees and others who must be on campus. Within the Reitz Union, Subway and Wendy's will be open for business (Subway 10 a.m. - 9 p.m.; Wendy's 10 a.m. - 7 p.m.). The Bookstore will also be open for business, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. All activities and events scheduled for Friday, Aug. 22 are canceled. The Reitz Union will resume its normal schedule on Saturday, Aug. 23, unless the weather conditions make it unsafe to do so. Navigating the Swamp, which was scheduled for Friday, has been canceled.
Sorority recruitment will be suspended for Friday, Aug. 22 and resume on Saturday, Aug. 23. Changes to the start time on Saturday will be communicated to the potential new members through the Panhellenic counselors.
Classes remain scheduled to begin Monday, Aug. 25, as planned, and the university is expected to resume a normal schedule.

Students are encouraged to check-in from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. to avoid disturbing other residents; however, students may check in when area offices are open. Housing staff is monitoring the projected path of Tropical Storm Fay. Staff continue to be concerned for the safety of residents and parents who may be planning to drive to Gainesville during potential tropical force winds, rains, flooding conditions and possible tornadoes later today and Friday. We strongly discourage residents from traveling to Gainesville and checking in during this time period. As you make your personal decision about this matter, please closely monitor the UF home page and weather conditions from where you are through to Gainesville.
Navigating the Swamp remains scheduled for Friday

Navigating the Swamp (NTS) will continue as scheduled from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday unless the university is closed. Participation is strongly encouraged. Anyone traveling from areas affected by Tropical Storm Fay should remember that safety is of utmost importance. Any student who misses NTS should follow up with his or her college next week.

Students, faculty, staff and others in the university community should exercise caution when traveling and keep track of weather updates as conditions can change rapidly. Housing check-in still suspended but residence halls are open

Check-in at university residence halls remains suspended until 6 a.m. Thursday because of dangerous travel conditions associated with Tropical Storm Fay, but UF officials say anyone who arrives to check in will be permitted to do so.
Check-in to Housing:
Thursday - Sunday between 8 a.m. - 10 p.m.
All residence hall area offices are open around the clock except for Yulee Area Office. Yulee is open 8 a.m. to midnight.
Please continue to check the Housing and Residence Education Web site or the UF home page for updates on these times due to Tropical Storm Fay. Officials still strongly discourage residents from traveling in tropical storm-force winds, potential flooding and possible tornadoes.
Transfer Preview:
At this time, Transfer Preview is scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 21, with check-in at 8 a.m. The university will make adjustments to the program as needed based on continuing developments with Tropical Storm Fay. Those who may be directly impacted by the storm and are unable to attend the Thursday Transfer Preview session should contact the Dean of Students Office at pguest@dso.ufl.edu.
First-year Students:
"Navigating the Swamp" is scheduled to be held as planned on Friday, Aug. 22. Should changes be made to this program because of Tropical Storm Fay, they will be posted here. Anyone who is unable to attend "Navigating the Swamp" will not be prevented from registering for classes or checking into to housing. Staff will be happy to assist anyone who has questions about what they may have missed in "Navigating the Swamp."

The university will be open Wednesday and will operate on a normal schedule as forecasts continue to show Tropical Storm Fay will not have a major impact on the Gainesville area. University officials will continue to monitor the storm, and more storm information can be found on UF's tropical weather update page.

The university will remain open and will operate on a normal schedule today as forecasts for Tropical Storm Fay indicate the storm will not have a major impact on the Gainesville area. The university will send out another message by the end of today advising about Wednesday's plan.
However, as previously announced, residence hall check-in will be suspended from 6 p.m. today until 6 a.m. Thursday. University officials believe weather conditions in certain parts of the state will be too dangerous for travel during that time.
Preview will continue as scheduled for today and Wednesday. Those unable to attend the Tuesday morning session should contact the Dean of Students Office at pguest@dso.ufl.edu.

University officials are continuing to monitor the track of Tropical Storm Fay. A decision as to whether to close campus is expected by midday Tuesday, and notification of that decision will be posted on the UF home page and sent to students, faculty and staff via e-mail and text messaging. The university community is reminded to check the UF home page for any announcements regarding Tropical Storm Fay.
In addition, the UF Department of Housing and Residence Education has suspended residence hall check-in from 6 p.m. Tuesday until 6 a.m. Thursday. University officials believe weather conditions will be too dangerous for travel during that time. Students who are already checked in should plan to remain in their residence halls.
