Seeing Berlin through lens before and after wall fell
Growing up in Berlin during the Cold War, professor John Freeman never thought the wall would fall. Now he runs an annual study-abroad trip to the once-divided city.
For two weeks, Freeman and his students document the city, tell a feature story through photographs and audio recordings, and gain an international perspective on journalism. “I’ve taken eight trips now, and it’s really rewarding to look back and see what the students have produced over the years,” he said. To showcase their work each year, they create a book with the best shots along with a website to share their multimedia feature stories.
