Sugar Ray is added to Gator Growl bill

The band has had several singles break into the Top 10.

The pop band Sugar Ray has been added to the lineup of evening performances for Gator Growl 2003, scheduled to take place at Florida Field on Nov. 7 at 7 p.m.

Since the June release of its fifth full-length album, "In the Pursuit of Leisure," Sugar Ray has been touring the country to promote the CD. The new album, which combines a unique blend of island rhythms, hip-hop grooves and '80s-inspired melodies, remains faithful to the band's infamous carefree sound.

Composed of frontman Mark McGrath, guitarist Rodney Sheppard, bassist Murphy Karges, DJ Craig Bullock and drummer Stan Frazier, Sugar Ray's original members still remain in the band's lineup almost 15 years after the band formed.

Over that time, the Southern California rockers have sold close to 7 million records in the United States and have watched several hit singles climb their way onto the Top 10 charts.

Sugar Ray will entertain Gator Growl spectators, as will the comedy routines of Christopher Titus and Arnez J. Both comedians signed on to perform at the pep rally in late August.

Gator Growl is celebrating its 78th anniversary this year. More than 60,000 are expected to fill Ben Hill Griffin Stadium as Growl recognizes UF's 150th anniversary.

Tickets are available for the general public and UF students.

Student tickets are $12 and can be purchased at the University Box Office, Constans Theater or through the G.A.T.O.R.S. hot line at 384-3262. Non-student tickets are available for $16 through www.ticketmaster.com and through the box office and theater.
