Rock legend Stephen Stills is coming to the University of Florida on Oct. 22 to speak about life in the music world.
Stills, who has ties to Gainesville and UF dating back to the 1950s, will present a lecture, "American Traditions in Music: A Personal Journey," at the University Memorial Auditorium.
Stills' talk is part of the Florida Frontiers Lecture Series, organized by the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences to celebrate UF's 150th anniversary.
The singer-songwriter - best known for membership in groups Buffalo Springfield and Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young - lived in Gainesville at various times during his childhood and attended Gainesville High School in 1962.
A year later, he enrolled at UF, but left to pursue what turned out to be an extremely successful musical career.
Stills recently gave $100,000 to UF's College of Fine Arts to fund a new 4,500-square-foot band rehearsal room next to the existing School of Music building.
The room will be named the Stephen Stills Band Rehearsal Room.
Stills' Oct. 22 speech will take place at 7:30 p.m. in the University Memorial Auditorium on the UF campus.
The event is free and open to the public. For more information, visit web.clas.ufl.edu/150/lectureseries.html on the Web or call 846-2032.
