TALLAHASSEE --- In keeping with their local television partnership showcasing Gator athletics, Sunshine Network and the University of Florida recently joined together to produce television coverage of the University's 150th Celebration Convocation.

The convocation was the inaugural event of the yearlong celebration of the University of Florida's 150th anniversary. The University hosted approximately 800 alumni, faculty, students and friends at the prestigious event, which included keynote addresses by Governor Jeb Bush and Forrest Sawyer, a UF alumnus and nationally acclaimed news anchor.

Planning an Event
A Sesquicentennial Celebration committee has been hard at work thinking of ideas and planning for this yearlong observance. We are depending strongly on the colleges, units, programs, organizations and divisions of the university for programs (such as lectures, speakers and outreach) and events (such as dedications, convocations and honors) that will help create a meaningful celebration. These events do not have to be specifically created for the Sesquicentennial Celebration; they may be events and activities that your group does on a yearly basis. However, in 2003, you can give them a Sesquicentennial theme.
